Why Does Silver Tarnish?

Tarnish is a natural process that occurs when silver reacts with sulfur compounds in the air, moisture, and even your skin. The good news? It's completely reversible with the right care.

Everyday Cleaning

For light cleaning, all you need is:

• A soft, lint-free cloth (a microfibre cloth works beautifully)
• Mild dish soap
• Warm water

Gently rub your piece with the soapy cloth, rinse thoroughly, and pat dry immediately. Never let silver air dry — water spots can dull the finish.

Removing Tarnish

For more stubborn tarnish, try this simple home remedy:

1. Line a bowl with aluminum foil, shiny side up
2. Add 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of salt
3. Pour in hot water and stir
4. Submerge your silver piece for 2–5 minutes
5. Rinse well and buff dry with a soft cloth

Note: Avoid this method for pieces with gemstones, pearls, or oxidized (intentionally darkened) finishes, as it can damage them.
